With over 26% of men and women (as an average) being classed as smokers within Great Britain and the imminent Smoking Ban coming into force in June 2007 in England & Wales the reality that all enclosed public spaces e.g. pubs, restaurants, places of work etc will have to ban smoking within their premises, or risk large fines (up to £2,500), is consigned to law. With this and smokers civil liberty in mind, alternative solutions such as externally mounted ashtrays have to be considered and potentially instigated by landlords, hoteliers and employers etc.
